Timeless Care: How to Keep Your Seiko Watch in Peak Condition

A Seiko watch isn’t just a timekeeper—it’s a finely tuned instrument of craftsmanship and precision. Whether you wear yours daily or reserve it for special occasions, proper care and maintenance can ensure it performs beautifully for years to come. Here’s how to give your Seiko the attention it deserves.

Why Regular Servicing Matters

Seiko recommends having your watch serviced approximately every three years. This is because over time, lubricants used for the movement may have gone bad, and parts may get worn. Regular servicing from an Authorized Seiko Service Center will keep window issues such as time loss or mechanical failure at bay for you. During a service, technicians will inspect, clean, and re-lubricate the movement and check the water resistance, ensuring that your watch is protected against moisture and dust.

Everyday Care Tips

Avoid Strong Shocks: While Seiko watches are built tough, dropping or hitting them against hard surfaces can damage internal components.

Water Resistance Awareness: Never operate the crown or pushers when the watch is wet. Even water-resistant models should be kept away from direct water pressure, like running taps. Seiko’s Prospex collection boasts impressive water resistance, with models rated for depths up to 1,000 meters, making them ideal for serious diving. In contrast, elegant dress watches such as those from the Presage and King Seiko lines offer water resistance up to 100 meters, balancing everyday durability with refined aesthetics.

Post-Sea Rinse: After wearing your watch in saltwater, rinse it with fresh water and dry it with a soft cloth to prevent corrosion.

No Baths or Saunas: High temperatures and steam can compromise gaskets and seals, reducing water resistance.

Temperature Extremes: Avoid exposing your watch to sudden or extreme temperature changes, which can affect accuracy and performance.

Caring for the Band

Metal Bracelets: Clean with a soft brush and soapy water, then dry thoroughly.

Leather Straps: To preserve the elegance of your King Seiko SJE087J1 or any Seiko timepiece with a leather strap, be sure to protect it from moisture, fragrances, and extended exposure to sunlight—these elements can lead to discoloration or cracking over time. This refined timepiece deserves a little extra care to maintain its pristine condition and timeless appeal.

Silicone or Rubber: Rinse with fresh water after exposure to sweat or saltwater.

Magnetism and Storage

Magnetic fields from electronics or magnetic clasps can affect your watch’s accuracy. Store your watch away from such sources, and if not wearing it for extended periods, keep it in a cool, dry place.

With just a little attention, your Seiko can remain a reliable and stylish companion for decades.
