Presage meets Porter Classic. A new collaboration honors Seiko’s heritage and the tradition of Japanese craftwork.

Presage combines a Japanese aesthetic sense with traditional craftsmanship and Seiko’s mechanical watchmaking skills in an original collection that offers Japanese beauty, quality and long-lasting performance. Today, Seiko introduces into the Presage Craftsmanship Series a new enamel-dialed watch designed in collaboration with Porter Classic, a Japanese fashion brand renowned for its high-quality products that blend traditional craft techniques with modern design. Established in 2007 by Katsuyuki Yoshida and his son, Leo Yoshida, Porter Classic has created various items that are made in Japan and can be passed down from generation to generation.

Porter Classic and the Presage team aimed to create a watch with a timeless design, drawing on Japanese craftsmanship and Seiko’s watchmaking heritage. Katsuyuki Yoshida’s strong interest in pocket watches and early 20th-century Seiko designs played an important role in the project.

The new creation honors the Laurel, Japan’s first wristwatch, created by Seiko in 1913. It captures the simple yet distinctive dial design of the original, and its proportions and round case shape resemble those of traditional pocket watches from the early 20th century.

Just like the original Laurel, the dial is enamel. Katsuyuki Yoshida selected a chic black enamel to create a design with a strong presence. Each dial is made with outstanding artisanal skill by master enamel craftsman Mitsuru Yokosawa and his team at a workshop specializing in enamel production.

A 24-hour sub-dial occupies the six o'clock position, where the seconds hand was located on the original Laurel; and the hour, minute, and 24-hour hands have the same delicate shape as was seen in the original. The Arabic numerals printed on the dial are faithfully reproduced in the original font, and the new creation features moveable rounded lugs inspired by pocket watch bows. Additionally, the silhouette of Katsuyuki Yoshida and the serial number are marked on the case back.

A black cordovan pull-through strap was developed especially for this creation. The watch also comes with an additional brown strap. Each strap is narrow enough to match the width of the watch’s lugs but widens beneath the case for enhanced wearing comfort. The straps have more holes than standard watch straps, allowing for a wider range of length adjustments.

The collaboration is accompanied by a special Jubako-style, or tiered, presentation box that can hold both the wristwatch and the additional strap. The elegant, stacking box has a chic black color to express the design perspective of Porter Classic.

The watch will be available beginning in November 2024 at the Seiko Boutiques and select retail partners worldwide as a limited edition of 500.
